8/17/19 Report - Hurricane Season. Finds for Identification. Book on Artifact Identification: The Jesus Tomb.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to the end of November. But the next six weeks -- “the season within a season” -- is regularly the most dangerous and active time for storms to develop in the Atlantic, said Dennis Feltgen, spokesman for the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Only two named storms have developed in the Atlantic so far this year. Dry, dusty air from Africa’s Sahara robbed potential storms of moisture, and wind shear spurred by the El Nino climate systems ripped apart budding storms. Now, those brakes on hurricane development are gone...
Here is the link for more about that.

As of today the National Hurricane Center map is only showing one poorly organized system up by South Carolina.  It probably won't affect us.

Facebook has just become the latest big tech firm to confirm that external contractors are listening to audio of users’ private conversations. According to a  Bloomberg report, Facebook has hired the contractors to listen in to users taking advantage of the audio to text functionality in its Messenger service...

Jerry P. is satisfied that we identified his find, mentioning specifically the eBay items.  He said thanks to everyone.   He had been working on the boat all week but sent the following additional photos.  I'm going to post a couple of them, even though it is a little late, because they are excellent examples for others.

Notice the (1) different views or angles, (2) a ruler for dimensions and (3) a coin for comparison.

Excellent.

I wanted something to read last last night and found a 384-page book by Rene A. Lopez on my shelf having the title The Jesus Family Tomb Examined..  It is about a tomb in Jerusalem containing several ossuaries, one of which was supposedly labeled "Jesus son of Joseph." which, despite the fact that Jesus and Joseph were very common names, was presented as the tomb of the Savior and his family.  The book thoroughly examines the claims made by books and TV documentaries and addresses each argument and the evidence.  The book will be interesting to anyone interested in Christianity or the process of examining and interpreting artifacts.  It also exposes how books and TV programs sensationalize things and promote falsehoods.

A couple sections that I found particularly interesting is the topic of patina and how an objects patina can record the environment.  Mention was made of the Statue of Liberty and how you can see a record of the pollutants of New York on its surface.  Of course, it has been cleaned, so some of that was wiped away.

Another section I found particularly interesting was on the difficult to read inscriptions on the ossuaries, which were not only obscured and confused to some extent by scratches but also how the writing could have been overwritten when the ossuary was reused.

Kerri K. found the following object on Playalinda Beach and wondered what it is.

Photos of unidentified object submitted by Kerri K.

Looks like a fossil turtle scute to me.

Where there is one there is probably more.

4/13/18 Report - Beach Access Petition. Cheating Die. Gilt Ring. How To Find Out What Facebook Has On You.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Copper Alloy Ring With Very
Slight Amount of Gilt Remaining.
Most of the gilt was present before cleaning, but most came off.  There are no markings on the ring that I've been able to see.

"Over 30 dice from the Middle Ages have been found in Bergen over the years so the discovery of a dice in itself is not very surprising. This dice is, on the other hand, special," wrote a team of archaeologists from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research on its website.
A normal dice has only one number (usually represented by a dot) on each of its six sides, ranging from 1 to 6. But not this dice.
"The dice from Vågsbunnen has two fives and two fours, instead of the numbers one and two. It is therefore very likely that this has been used to cheat in games," the archaeologists wrote...

It seems remarkable to me how die found in many distant places and coming from many different time periods are so similar.

As I explained before, there is a lot of confusion around the beach access issue.  I posted parts of one article that shows how the media is to some extent responsible for that.  I also explained that I am not I'm not going to try to explain any bills or anything like that.  I will post other peoples opinions and positions on the beach access matter.  Sherry Y. had the following to say.

Well, my representatives have not bothered to return my emails, and I can't say that I'm surprised. .I am a registered voter in Brevard County, so the surprise may be on them when they are up for re-election.
There is now an internet petition concerning public beach access.  Here is the link if anyone is interested:

It already has nearly 30,000 signatures.  We may not be able to get this particular bill repealed, but those clowns in Tallahassee might think twice before they try to pass another law restricting public access to our beaches.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
Sherry Young

It seems that most of the representatives have not responded to comments and inquiries.  Maybe a lot of them do not understand the impact or care about it.  For some reason many of them are not responding to the public.

As I said before, I think it is good to let your representatives know your feelings about the importance of public beach access regardless of what any particular bill would or wouldn't do.

I may have found the first gold coin from one 20th century site that I've been seeking.  Maybe more on that some day soon.

Don't expect any big changes at the beach this weekend.

4/2/18 Report - Beat Up Old Gold Band. Munitions Found On Beach. Oldest Foot Prints. Thousands of Artifacts.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Rough New Gold Band Find.
When the rough water subsides and you have a good negative tide, it gives you a chance to get out farther in the dips below the cuts.  You can sometimes get some leftovers that way, including some occasional gold.

This band is really rough, as I think you can see.  It was partly encrusted before cleaning.  Looks like it has taken a beating.  No markings on the inside at all.

A century after World War I ended, discarded munitions from that and other wars continue to make their way onto beaches around the country.

Items ranging from tiny fuses to full-scale mines are displaced by beach replenishment projects, sucked from the ocean floor and pumped ashore, or by strong storms that uncover them.

The most recent discovery came earlier this month when seven WWI rifle grenades were found on the beach in Mantoloking, New Jersey, which is undergoing a beach replenishment project to undo damage from Superstorm Sandy more than five years ago...

About 13,000 years ago, two shoeless adults and a child squished their bare feet through wet clay near the water's edge, leaving footprints that still exist today.

The footprints, recently unearthed by anthropologists on an island in British Columbia, Canada, are the oldest known human track marks in North America, according to a new study, and provide more evidence that humans were thriving on the Pacific Coast of Canada at the end of the last ice age, said study lead researcher Duncan McLaren, an anthropologist at the Hakai Institute and the University of Victoria, in Canada....

Nearly 10,000 Native American artifacts — a rectangular ceramic vessel, tool fragments, arrowheads, and other projectile points — have been discovered at two archaeological excavation sites in Camden.
Along with the hearthstones, animal bones, and remains of plants likely used for food, medicine, and fuel found during the excavations, the materials may shed light on the lives of indigenous people who camped along the Delaware River as early as 4,000 years ago...

There has been a lot in the news lately about data being mined from Facebook for use in advertising, political campaigns and disruption of countries.  Here is an article that will help you find out some of what Facebook knows about you.

https://www.howtogeek.com/346197/ever-wonder-how-much-facebook-knows-about-you-here%E2%80%99s-how-to-see/

It amazes me that Facebook, which started as a blatantly sexist application used by judge women's physical characteristics and is run by a bunch in California who you'd think would be not only opposed to such blatant sexism and stereotypical behavior, but who would also stand for the individual's rights, yet that is not the case when they can make a profit off of it.  One big bundle of hypocrisy!

It looks like the increase in surf that was expected for the end of the week will be very modest, only reaching 2 - 4 feet.
