The blue bags were uncovered at Vero, as you can see below.

I recently posted the picture what I called a gold splash that was found this week.  There was a question about its identity.  I got several responses.  Some people thought it could be space debris, some people thought it didn't look like gold at all, but it was acid tested, and I can't remember the other responses right now, but I thought it could have been what I called a small gold splash.  I've found small lumps of melted silver before.  But here is a response that I got that could be it.

First is the gold lump as it appeared in the photos that were submitted to me.

And below is a very convincing response.
Duane C. said, Just wanted to suggest we find these all the time, usually 14k & 18K. They are melted gold dental crowns. When ashes are distributed on the beach these still exist. They can be found intact or as melted blobs. Just an idea on what they are. Several found here each year...
Duane

Here is the photo Duane sent.

That looks very similar.  That could be it.  Thanks much Duane.

----

I showed a lot of musket balls and pieces of lead that were found.  Here is a good link to a web site about that which Trez sent.

It talks about the various lead varieties, sprues.

There seems to be no logic to the beach closure.  Thursday John Brooks was still closed at around 10:30 while Frederick Douglas was closed.  Walton Rocks was closed and a lot of cars were parked outside the gate.

Today Walton Rocks was still closed.

John Brooks looked poor.  The beach front was mushy.

I have some photos, and if I have internet when I go home I'll add some to this post.

That is it for now.

Happy hunting.

1/14/17 Report - Good Rough Surf Today. Recent Treasure Coast Finds and Condition Report.

Awesome Treasure Coast Finds by Mark M.
I was hoping to get some reports from the Vero/Sebastian area since I didn't get a chance to get up there.  I just got this report from Mark.

Sunday I went out, I drove south from Cocoa Beach south to look at the beaches. It was not too impressive. North of the Museum the sand replenish has started, lots of equipment on the beach and dump trucks moving sand (Monday). So I went to Wabasso to Turtle Trail. I could just start to see the blue bags so I went North up the beach. Just north of the yellow condos I found that small piece of jewelry (I think it is jewelry). I am sending you a photo. The next day I went back to Turtle trail, man there were a lot of detectorist on the beach when I got there. The bags where showing some completely showing. I was told by a friend there that a detectorist that an eight-real sliver around the bags. I followed the tracks of the others and found one old green nickel and one penny. I walk south of the second flag pole a short distance and found some lead sheeting, which I did not know what it was and tossed in the trash. In the same area I found the copper hinge about fourteen inches down. I can not say it is of the fleet, but it was deep.

See Mark's finds in the photo above.

I love the hinge.  It has a nice design on it.

Sorry I didn't get up there sooner so I could have reported on this myself.  I missed this one. Had other things I had to do then and it seems that it was only this area that was producing.  Sometimes you can miss it by a matter of hours or even minutes.

I did get up there Friday. (See photos below.)

Bags and Two-Foot Cut Between the Two Flag Poles Friday.
On the basis of Mark's report and what I saw yesterday, the Turtle Trail area had filled back in some by Friday.  On Friday there were very few signals.

It seems that area has been opening up when the fronts first come through.

Thanks much for the report Mark!

Sorry to hear about the replenishment projects starting again already.  I suppose they'll be doing every beach north of Vero by summer.

The surf today is supposed to be 5 - 8 feet.  That is pretty good.  Too bad the wind direction isn't more from the north.  I'm not increasing my beach conditions rating.  Might be wrong though.  It is close enough that a spot could open up at any time for a short while.

Happy hunting,

11/4/16 Report - Real Found This Week. Corrigan's Beach Status and Fakes Found. Higher Surf Coming Soon.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Find and photo by Brent P.
Brent found the above while hunting modern jewelry north of Cocoa.  He hasn't yet determined if it is real.  Certainly looks more real than most fakes.  I'll take a closer look later.

At first glance it looks like a 1696 (really unsure about that) Potosi.  If that isn't the precise date, from the design I'd suspect that it is close.  Can't see the assayer mark, which would help.

I've mentioned several times that North Florida was more heavily affected by Matthew than the Treasure Coast.

Let us know when you have a positive ID Brent.  Thanks for sharing.

Locally the surf has been up and we've had a good amount of wind.

I got a report that at Corrigan's the blue bags were showing at Corrigan's.  That is a good sign.

There was also black sand, which is another good indicator.

Darrel said he found some fake reales.  He tested them with a magnet.  That is a good first test.

Conditions there look good enough that a few real reales might be found as well.

It looks like that beach got better this week than immediately after Matthew.

Thanks to Darrel S. for the report.

As you can see we're supposed to get 4 -7 foot surf Sunday and Monday and possibly a northeast wind.  On top of all the high surf we've been having lately that could be good.  We'll see.

Happy hunting,
