4/1/20 Report - What Is Open Or Closed.

The following is my understanding at the present time.

Governor DeSantis said he is not going to order all beaches closed (as of March 25).

DeSantis issued a "Safer at Home Order" beginning Saturday, which mandates staying at home 24/7, except for "essential businesses and individuals."  You may travel for essential activities and outdoor activities. No gatherings of more than ten people.

Dade, Broward and Palm beaches are closed.  Governor DeSantis closed all businesses in those hot spots. 

There was a suit against DeSantis to force him to close all beaches.  I don't know what happened with that, but most local areas closed their beaches anyhow. 

•  St. Lucie County beaches closed effective March 23 based upon failure of crowds to honor social distancing, according to TCPalm.

•  Indian River County beaches closed as of March 23.

• Martin County beaches closed as of March 22.

• Brevard County - some beaches closed. This one is a little more complicated.  Beaches in unincorporated areas are open (as of March 31).  Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Indian Harbor Beach, Indialantic Beach, Melborne Beach are closed.

In most of those areas, beach accesses are closed, gated and patrolled by officers.

As of March 24, in Vero beach people can walk along JC Park boardwalk but they can't go to the shoreline.  They can use the park areas of public beach, such as the grassy areas.

People with private access, such as hotel guests, HOA and condominium residents and community association members can visit the beaches.

Question: if you kick ten gathered people off a beach, are they just going to gather elsewhere?  Or do you ask them to separate or just shut the beach for everyone?


I consider my readers to be intelligent people who can read and independently think for themselves.


The surf will be building up to 6 to 9 feet by Sunday.

Not long ago I showed you some small melted bits of silver found on the beach.  They looked a lot like some pieces found at the Winter Beach camp.

It would be a good education for any detectorist to visit the museum to study the items on display.

There are a lot of opinions on the glass-looking mystery items that I posted not too long ago.

Here are the ideas that I've received.

Decorative glass for flower vases and beach weddings.

Shattered safety glass.

Fluorite crystals.
Meth crystals.  TM says it is definitely not that.

Now here is what Bill G. said.

Regarding the glass pellets:

I helped start a fire table company (Firetainment) and those pieces of glass look exactly like what we put in our burner pans. Here is a link to some on Amazon.

Thanks Bill.  Looks like we're not going to settle this one, but maybe the reader ideas gave the finder enough to narrow it down.

I thought you and your PB County readers would like to know about Mid-Town Beach’s status. I decided to go there for some wet-sand and surf detecting this morning since I had limited time and it’s close for me. I was quite surprised when I got there. There is a Major Renourishing project going on using pumped in sand from offshore. I had not heard a word about it happening. Looks to me like they are close to completing the work and still have lifeguards in the stands as well as the beach open to the public. Even though there is heavy equipment, dredge pipes etc. still being moved about on the beach, there was a good number of folks enjoying the Sun and water. Needless to say, detecting where I like to search was very lean. I also learned when I got home, that starting tomorrow (3/17) all Palm Beach Island beaches will be closed due to restrictions from the Covid-19 virus. Although they are saying that the PB County beaches will remain open to the public for now.

If you are worrying that Coronavirus in the U. S. will spread like it did in Italy, you might be interested to know that northern Italy has a lot of sweat shops in which a very large Chinese population works, many of which come from an area not too far from Wuhan.

It might also help to put things in perspective if you consider that the N1H1 virus killed around 12,000 people in the U. S. in one year, 2009 - 2010.  So the Coronavirus has a long way to go to reach those numbers.

9/23/19 Report - From the Treasure Coast to the Palm Beaches - Conditions and Finds. Triton Submarines Visit the Titanic.

The South Hutchinson Island beaches were not looking good this morning.  In fact those beaches haven't changed much at all in the last few weeks even though they were hit by Dorian and a lot of high surf.  The swells have continued to hit the beach directly at a ninety degree angle for weeks now.  Its amazing how little the beaches have changed during that length of time.

John Brooks was unchanged this morning, except for some very shallow dips, which could also be found on other beaches.

Walton Rocks Beach Monday Morning.

Walton Rocks looked very much like the other beaches I saw.  The beach was more convex than is apparent in this photo, but there was a very sparse coin line just above the water line.  I'm pretty sure those coins and other items were washed up out of the water, but I'm not completely sure.  The water had been up to the vegetation.

A bit farther south ( I don't know the name of the beach ) I found the cut shown below.

Even though there is a cut here, the cut is in renourishment sand and the same beach was cut down much lower a year or so ago.

I found an MRE this morning.

Overall, beach conditions remain poor.

Before long I'm sure they'll use Dorian or any other excuse to spend some FEMA money to dump more sand on the beaches.
