5/13/18 Report - Happy Mother's Day. Do It Today. Hurricanes Intensifying Faster.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

I mostly just wanted to say happy Mother's Day, especially to all of the mothers.  I hear from more women detectorists than you might expect.

Just the other day my neighbor told me some the things he said he'd do if he was retired.   It seems like everybody has things they plan to do when they retire.  You always think you'll have more time to do the things when you retire, but it doesn't necessarily work out like that.  Besides, a lot of things can change in a few years.  I had no idea how things would change in my life.  And I had no way of guessing just how things would change.

I actually feel like I have less now to do the things I want to do now that I am retired.  I found a way to do things when I was working, and no if you are working or not, you have to make time for what you really want to do.

My advice would be don't wait.  A lot of things can happen.  Believe it or not, when you get older, you might not be have the same energy and health you did when you were younger.   Its hard to be the same at seventy or eighty as you were at thirty or something.   It's not just a number.

You might not be as healthy or fit or able.  Unexpected things happen to a lot of people as they get older, and not all of them are good.

Also think about your loved ones.  They might have additional problems too.  Taking care of an elderly parent can be a big job.  You can end up with new responsibilities that you never thought you'd have.

You might change in other ways too.  Maybe your desires and priorities will change, and those things that you once loved to do might someday seem trivial or meaningless - especially when you no longer have the people around that you'd like to share it with.

The only thing I'm saying is that if there are good things you really want to do, don't put them off for some distant time.  You never know what the future will bring.   That is how it looks to me.

Today is the day - in more ways than one.  Make it as special and memorable as you can.

Hurricanes are now undergoing rapid intensification faster than they did 30 years ago in parts of the Atlantic Basin.

Rapid intensification is defined as an increase in wind speed of at least 35 mph in 24 hours or less.

The main instigator for this change is an atmospheric circulation known as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO)...
Here is the link for more about that.

7/6/17 Report - Today Is The Day! What Makes America Great. Tropical Depression Four Heading This Way.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Today is the Day!  That is one powerful statement.  It is perhaps the biggest treasure to come out of treasure hunting.

It is not about silver and gold.  It is about today.  It is about time - the most precious thing you have on this earth.

Today is what you have.  It is where you are.  It is the epicenter of what can be.  It is the source out of which good and evil spings.  It is where the next moment is born. It is where the next moment is shaped and formed.  It is now.

Someday there will be no tomorrows - at least not on this earth.  That applies to everyone. There is a final chapter.  The book slams shut.  Your earthly story comes to an end.

You write your story every day.  How does it read so far?  How do you want it to end?

You are the author.  You can't go back and change the beginning.  What has been written won't be erased, but you can change what comes next.

Everyone is the main character in their story.  Every story revolves around the main character.  The main character writes his own lines and determines what he will become.

You might wish to change the setting or the other characters, but the setting was formed in days gone by and the other characters write their own lines.  You are the author of your own story, and that is the way it should be.

You can be a part of other stories.  You can't be the main character in someone else's story, but you can change their story.  You might not realize your power or impact on others.  They can't change what you do.  They can only choose how to react to what you do.

Like it or not - realize it or not - you are writing your own story now.  Each and every decision is your choice - no matter what situation you face.

Each and every decision can send the story in a different direction.  Today is the day.  Today is where it all happens.

Now is the time to consider how you want your story to end.

A Barna Research poll found out what Americans think makes America great.  Here are some of the results.

Source: www.barna.com

The young and old have different opinions on this, as do liberals and conservatives.  You can find all of that at Barna.com.

Interviews with U.S. adults included 1015 web-based surveys conducted among a representative sample of adults over the age of 18 in each of the 50 United States. The survey was conducted between June 5-9 of 2017...

Predicted Path of Tropical Depression Four.
Source: nhc.noaa.gov

Tropical Depression Four seems to be headed in our general direction. According to AccuWeather, during the first part of next week, the system is likely to travel near or just northeast of the Bahamas.

The surfing web sites are not predicting any increase in the Treasure Coast surf for the next couple of weeks.

Keep watching.

Just a few days left to respond to the blog poll.

10/27/5 Report - New Poll. Dynamics of Pebble Covered Beaches. Detecting The Past. Why Today Is The Day.

Written by the Treasure Guide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

I added a poll to the blog.  It might be worded a little awkwardly, but there are reasons for that.

Try to answer to the best of your ability.  This poll should only be answered by those that detected Treasure Coast beaches during the last half of October.

Thanks for your participation.  It is always good to get a realistic estimate of what was found, and therefore an idea of what you can expect during conditions such as those we recently had.

Here is a great illustration.  I lost the link, and I think the web site changed.  It used to be something like www.seafriends.org.nz, but I can't find the source web site now.

That illustrates a lot of different things that I talk about from time to time, such a the different trigger points of different objects, the importance of the shape of objects, etc.

If you talk to detectorists, many will tell you that one thing they like is touching history.  Another thing you will often hear is something like, "Just think. I was the first person to touch that item in three hundred years."

I think those two statements express slightly different sentiments.  "Touching history" emphasizes the time element more, while the "first person to touch x" statement is more about personal uniqueness. It emphasizes the person being "first."

The two statements are not necessarily mutually exclusive.  Neither are the sentiments mutually exclusive. The person who makes an old find might simultaneously feel both of those sentiments but just express one.  They might feel connected to history and the personal uniqueness of the moment.  I'm sure there are other times when the choice of one of those statements actually indicates the most significant sentiment for that person.

There are definitely detectorists who prefer to find old rusty items more than more valuable modern items.  The two reasons given above are among the most common,

Today is the day!  You've heard it, and it is true.

If you live to be a hundred years old, that would be about 36,500 days.  That sounds like a lot, doesn't it?  The problem is that if you are fifty, you've already used about 18,250 of those days.  And if you only live to 80 instead of a hundred (still a lofty goal), knock off another 10,300 days.  Now you,re down to around 8000.

A lot of people don't want to think about the passing of time and how short life really is.  Maybe that is the best way to go, but for me looking at it numerically is a bit of a reality check.  It makes it clear how finite life (or should I say a "lifetime") is, and how precious every day is.  Knowing that it is so short and precious, make the best of each and every day and each and every moment.

How do you make the best of it?  You'll have to determine that for yourself, but it might be worth thinking about.

---

The TV news is going on and on about the Super Moon.  The water will be a little higher, but I'm not expecting that to help beach detecting conditions much.  The surf is only predicted to run around 2 or 3 feet and the wind will be out of the southeast.

I did see a lot of plastic junk on one beach at the high tide mark yesterday.

Happy hunting,
