Seated Liberty Dime. |
I found a small group of silver coins that are very worn. This Seated Liberty dime is actually one of the better ones. Some of the others are worn almost to nothing. I think most of the wear is from circulation. They did not show much corrosion.
The photo is every bit as good as you can see it in real life. I think you can actually see more in the photo. I tried sharpening and contrast and all those things, but couldn't get it any better than this.
It looks to me like the date is 184?
The melt value is a little over $1. If it was in just average shape, it would have a value of around $30, but it is in very poor condition.
I'm glad I got my close-up photo system working again! I plan to have some more good coin photos.

A Lot of Cug Coins. Finds and photos by Jeff C. |
Jeff C. sent me the above photo of his finds along with the following email message.
This is Jeff C from PSL. Had to share a picture of my finds from Wednesday in the pompano beach area.. Using my equinox 600. Found approximately $15 in change in 2 1/2 hrs.. would of kept going but had to go to work.. Nonstop targets. A couple wheatbacks.. and a small silver toe ring were the only thing other then coins..
---
As I always say there is always some place to detect and something to find. The treasure won't come to you. You have to go to where it is. Sometimes it is in the water, sometimes on the beach, sometimes inland, and sometimes north or south.
Alberto probably created some good hunting somewhere up around Alligator Point. Also some other places. I didn't get any out-of-area reports other than Jeff's lately.
I always like islands or irregular coastal areas were if one side wasn't getting hit the other side would be.
When the sand is building in one place, it is leaving another. That is a good thing to remember when you see a lot of new sand. Ask yourself where it came from.
Expect more of the same conditions on the Treasure Coast for a at least a few days.
Happy hunting,

PS: Next post will have more about one reader's experience with the Equinox metal detector.

I don't usually do anything that sounds so much like an ad, but since Jeff mentioned his detector, and it is a new one on the market, I thought I'd say a few things about it.
The Equinox 600 and 800 are recent Minelab products that came out this year. Some retailers are back ordered at this time.
Here is how Minelab describes the Equinox. With EQUINOX and Multi-IQ, Minelab is providing what all detectorists have been waiting for – fast simultaneous multi-frequency, lightweight, waterproof, 3 wireless audio technologies, 4 practical and versatile detect modes – all for a comparable price to single-frequency market offerings.
It looks like you can get the 600 for under $700 and the 800 for under $900. The 800 comes with wireless headphones and probably a few other things.
You can find old shipwreck coins in the Pompano Beach area too. Cobs are sometimes found around the pier and inlet areas.

Faced with an unrelenting spread of invasive Burmese pythons that have mostly wiped out marsh rabbits, bobcats and other small mammals, Everglades National Park is doing something for the first time in its 70-year history: opening park borders to paid hunters.
On Thursday, Superintendent Pedro Ramos announced plans to team up with state wildlife officers who last year began hiring hunters to kill the voracious snakes...
Thanks to Brian B. for that link.
