You might want to look at some of the later chapters first because there is a limit to how much you can read as a free preview.

Maybe you've found something that looks like a coin but you can't identify it.  I have. This is an entire class of coins or tokens that you should know about.  As the book says, such tokens might be found in port cities or where sailors live.

There seems to be a lot of good interesting information in that book.

Researchers in Germany and Denmark analysed the chemical composition of 70 silver Roman coins dating from about 310 BCE to 101 BCE, spanning either side of the war.

"Before the war we find that the Roman coins are made of silver from the same sources as the coinage issued by Greek cities in Italy and Sicily. In other words the lead isotope signatures of the coins correspond to those of silver ores and metallurgical products from the Aegean region," said Katrin Westner of the Institute for Archaeological Sciences, Goethe University, Germany...

Later coins came from silver mined in what is now Spain.

Gert is up by North Carolina now, but there are two more systems to watch out in the Atlantic.  Either or both of those could possibly come our way.  It will be a while before we know what happens to them.

If you are interested in Revolutionary War cannons, machine guns, Winchester lever action rifles, or Colt army revolvers, you'll find plenty to look at in this Oct. 2014 James D. Julia auction catalog.  There are thousands of lots, including a few items other than guns, such as Al Capone's pocket watch.  The catalog is  huge and is a great resource for research.

The cannon shown above has an auction estimate of 8 to 12 thousand dollars.

Al Capones pocket watch is estimated at 35 to 55 thousand dollars.  The pocket watch is one of very few items listed other than guns.

We have two weather systems to watch.  The one out in the middle of the Atlantic has a 70 percent chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours, while the one just off of our coast only has a 10 percent chance of forming.  We're getting a little rain off of that one.

The second is close but not doing much.  We still have only a 1 - 2 foot surf, and nothing bigger is predicted for the next few days.

You can tow it or whatever. 

The prices is around $12,500.

I don't know how good it is.

I haven't seen any reviews.

A strong solar storm is heading towards the earth, but we won't get a direct hit.   No disruption to electric grids is expected.  Solar storms are said to disrupt the Earth's magnetic field.

I have been getting an unusual amount of what appears to be EMI in my ear phones on some detectors lately, and have dialed back my sensitivity some, which I almost never do.   Could it be the solar storm?

Anybody else notice that?
