Surf Predictions. Evacuations for Indian River and St. Lucie Counties. Beach Conditions.

Here are the surf predictions from MagicSeaWeed.com.  According to that, we are supposed to have nearly 24 hours of 10 - 16 foot surf Monday to Tuesday, then quickly decreasing.

Don't forget the big tides we're having too.  With that kind of surf combined with the big tides, there should be some dune bangers, especially on narrow beaches with a high cliff behind.

It isn't showing much north wind.  The problem with this morning is that the beaches I saw were mostly getting hit straight on.  No erosion.  Yet there had to be at least a few spots where you could find erosion.

There are a few spots that will erode with south winds.  Check the angle of the waves as well as the size.

The big problem you'll be having for probably the next couple of days is getting onto the beach with the evacuation orders and beach closings.

The most recent weather updates didn't show much change in the track of Dorian.  I'll check again later and in the morning.

Dorian is getting old.  We've been talking about it for about a week now, and it is stalling out over the Bahamas.  It is living up to it's name.

I feel sorry for the folks in the Bahamas, and hope that it doesn't inflict too much more pain on the U.S.

Hurricane preparation is costly.  Most everyone along the entire coast of Florida spent time and money.   It also causes a lot of injuries.  People falling off of ladders etc.

That's all for now.

John Brooks Beach Early Sunday Afternoon.
Yesterday I showed you a little erosion on South Hutchinson Island.  It was mostly gone today.

The waves seemed to be hitting the beach straight on, and they were not as high as I expected.

John Brooks Beach Sunday Afternoon.
The gates at both John Brooks and Frederick Douglass were closed, and I suspect the gates at other parks in the area were closed as well.   But from the looks of the beaches at John Brooks and Frederick Douglass, you weren't missing anything.

South of Frederick Douglass Sunday Afternoon.
Indian River County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for all areas east of US 1 beginning 8 AM Monday.

St. Lucie County issued a mandatory evacuation for North and South Hutchinson Island beginning 2 PM Sunday.

I hope to have more on Dorian after the 5 PM and later updates.

It looks like the center track of Dorian might be coming a little closer to the Treasure Coast now.  Hopefully I'll have more details later.

Be safe,
