8/6/15 Report - A Different Way To Use Your Scoop Very Effectively. Swimming Beach Finds Today. Intuition Experience By One Reader.

This Mornings Finds.

I went out to the nearest swimming beach this morning to test out new ear phones.  I spent about an hour.

You want to have things in tip top shape or when we get a change in detecting conditions.  It is a good time for testing and experimentation.

You can usually find something at that beach, but usually cheap stuff.  That is the type of beach it is.

As in real estate, metal detecting is very much about location, location, location.

I did a post on metal detecting math one time.  That is very relevant here.  This beach is the type of place where the quantity is OK but the quality is poor.

Anyhow, the water was nice.  Good visibility. Gentle swells that increased a little after the sun got a little higher.

After hunting a little while, I turned my threshold down to silent.  That may have cost me a smidgen of depth, but nothing to be much concerned about.  I just liked the silence.  It was very pleasant with the gently rolling swells.

The shells that were visible on the sand were in little depressions.  The water movement was sufficient to move the sand where the water increased as it flowed around the shells, but was not sufficient to move shells of a certain size,

There were a lot of dive boats out today, as well as divers going in from the beach.   Lobster season began today.

Most people use their scoop something like a shovel.  I often use it more like a hoe.  In the water today the hoe method was uncommonly effective for some reason - I assume the currents.   It seemed to be working better than digging in and lifting.

If you have a deeper target and a decent size hole and still have not retrieved the object from the hole, you might try this method.

Put your scoop upside down in the far side of the hole.  Push down on the scoop with your foot.  And pull the scoop back towards you.

That was working uncommonly well this morning.  You might think that the object would fall out of the scoop but the sand and currents and upward movement tend to keep it in.  Even when it does not stay in the scoop, the object will probably end up outside the hole where it can easily be retrieved with the next scoop.

Also, if you need a really deep hole and can let go of your detector, use both hands on the scoop, and hoe like crazy.  That will get you a big deep hole in a hurry.  It combines fanning and scooping.

At the beach I was at today, there are some spots where you can usually find some things.  One of the best spots is right in front of the central life guard station, the other is down at another walkway.

You can usually find recent drops in the wet sand and in the water at those locations.  The wet sand coins can be a tip off to where the better water spots might be.  That does not always work, but sometimes it does.

39-year old Kenneth Fagin, Jr. from South Pittsburg and 61-year old Terry Tate from Manchester will serve 30 months in federal prison.

They were convicted of illegal archaeological excavation on federal property...

The other day I talked about intuition and such things and asked people to send in any personal stories.  Larry sent in this one.

One afternoon after working at home, I asked myself, "what must I do to find a gold ring within the next hour?". It was a positive intention such as I had never felt in my gold hunting experience before.

I pulled up google maps, centered it over my favorite park field, wherein I had already found 4 gold rings. I cleared my mind of all thoughts while simultaneously moving my hand over the monitor. My purpose was to lose all conscious thought of my hand. It was almost like going to sleep, as directed thought slips out of your control and you start to dream. At that point my hand stopped, seemingly without conscious intervention. I triangulated the spot with trees and light poles, all of which I was intimately familiar with already.

I walked directly to the spot, checked the landmarks just for confirmation, found a signal, dug a hole, and pulled out a nice gold band with 3 diamonds about .2 carats each. I went right home. I'd been in the field no more than maybe 5 minutes.

Was this supernatural? Had I willed the find to occur? Had the remote digital dousing actually "worked" by means that we are not aware of? Or was it all just the random lining up of all those events in a way that humans are evolved to interpret as connected and meaningful by assigning causation to hidden, metaphysical "forces"?

I think the later is true, though I prefer believing the former.

One of Two Possible Locations of Wedding Band Lost In Ocean.

A man's yellow gold wedding band engraved "Amélie & Pierre" was lost in the ocean at either Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale Aug. 2.  It wasn't noticed missing until he was in the water at Fort Lauderdale but was in the ocean at Palm Beach in front of Peruvian Ave. (shown above) earlier.

They don't know exactly where they were in Fort Lauderdale at the time.

Check for the engraving, which will provide a good ID.

Here is an interesting story.  Not metal detecting, but I thought it was interesting anyhow.

An Oklahoma widow and her daughter who spent their first Father's Day without dad this year released balloons and a message at his grave site — and may have gotten a "message" back.

The pair was stunned when — after leaving the cemetery, running a few errands, and driving 25 mile back home — the balloon's note showed up at their house...

Once home, Saige went downhill from their house to the pasture where she and her father worked together and spotted her message with the balloons — only a few hundred feet from the house....

The following remotely relates to the above story.


Nearly half of the adults in the United States believe in the existence of ESP, which includes telepathy (direct knowledge of another person's thoughts), clairvoyance (direct knowledge of remote events), and precognition (direct knowledge of the future). People commonly report unexplained knowledge of a loved one's death or a telephone caller's identity, for example, and attribute this knowledge to paranormal mental processing.

I've had those times, and I've sure many of you have too, when it seemed that a find was more than coincidental.

One time, for example, I was at work and only had a about an hour before another appointment, but kept feeling that I should go detecting at a particular location.   But I didn't have hardly any time.
I finally decided I would run down to the beach.  By the time I got to the beach and in the water, I had less than a half hour to hunt.  Well, I went in and in just a few minutes had a diamond ring with over nine carats of diamonds - seven diamonds, each over one carat.  I took my find and quickly left.

Normally I wouldn't have gone when I had so little time.  If traffic had been bad, I would have had no time.  But I felt like I should go.  It kept nagging me, and it paid off with an unusually good quick find.

I don't know if it was just coincidence, intuition, or something else.   I can't say with confidence that it was anything other than coincidence.

I do a lot of analysis.  I try to figure things out and make good calculated decisions.  You know that if you've been reading this blog very long.   Nonetheless,  I will follow my feelings at times regardless of anything else.  I doesn't pay off a lot.  I tend to do a lot better with a more analytical calculated approach.

One recent study by Harvard University claimed that by studying brain functions they found no experimental evidence for telepathy, clairvoyance or precognition.  Other books on similar things by scientists with good credentials indicates that there are conditions for such things and not all people have the same abilities. 

I find the Harvard study woefully inadequate anyway.   They were looking for electrochemical brain responses.  That is how normal perception works, but they were supposedly investigating "Extra-sensory" or paranormal perception.  Why would you expect paranormal perception to work just like normal perception.  If it did, it wouldn't be paranormal. 

I am not convinced either way and think alternative methods of perception may be possible, but I have no convincing evidence of them.  

Intuition could be nothing more than the assimilation of a lot of knowledge that isn't completely consciously clear at the time.  As tasks become automatic, you don't have to always be aware of each and every part of the task.   For example, you don't have think about putting one foot in front of the other and transferring your weight when you walk.  After you learn to walk, it becomes automatic.

Anyhow, I find good analysis and calculated decisions much more consistently productive, but I'm not ready to deny or ignore all of the subtle notions and feelings that I get.  As remarkable and stunning as intuitive successes might seem, they are much too rare.

I'd like to hear your stories of finds made through unusual coincidence, dowsing, intuition, ESP or any of those kinds of things.

1/3/12 Report - Cold Wind Blows Beach Sand on the Treasure Coast & Poll Results

Typical Treasure Coast Beach Early This Morning.

The blowing sand almost looked like a blizzard at times.

It is a cold windy day at the beach. If you go, take your winter gear. I would suggest gloves.

The wind was from the northwest early this morning. You can see the waves. It was pretty rough.

It looked to me like the sand in the shallow water was getting stirred up. It also looked like a little sand was being moved from the front of the beach.

The water had not been up very high yet.

I did see one small area where a little cutting was occurring.


Small Cut on One Treasure Coast Beach Early This Morning.

The cut that I found was only about a foot high and ran only a very short distance.

It did appear as if sand was being removed from the front of the beach, but not very much yet.

I think the wind increased later in the morning and maybe the direction of the wind is changing too. Maybe when the wind shifts from the northwest to be more from the northeast, more erosion will occur.

Early this morning, not too much had happened yet. Maybe later.

It wasn't enough this morning to upgrade my conditions rating yet.

Tomorrow might show improved conditions. If we get the wind from the right angle when the tide is high, that should improve things. We'll see.



The most recent blog poll is over and the results are in. The subject received a lot of interest. I heard from several people, some of whom would swear by dowsing. I also heard from some who planned to use dowsing along with their salvage efforts.

My poll did not determine the effectiveness of dowsing. The poll was only about opinions about dowsing.

It is actually a more complex issue than the poll suggested. One person wrote and told me they believed very strongly in dowsing but that there were other things to consider. They suggested that although dowsing works, it only works when used for certain purposes.

Skill might also be a consideration. You might expect some people to be more skilled at it than others.

What the poll results showed is that nearly 45% of the respondents indicate that they don't know if dowsing works or not.

Of those that did have a opinion about it's effectiveness, about the same number believed that it was very or a little bit effective as the number of respondents who believed it was not effective.

Dowsing appears to be an area where the public has no clear consensus. Close to half claim they don't know, and of the remaining group, there is a nearly equal split between those that believe that it has some value and those who believe it does not work.

I would say that the division is in part due to the fact that a lot of people have little or no direct experience with it.

Nearly one out of five believe that dowsing is highly accurate and effective under some circumstances. That is a pretty good number.

As I said, there are those who will be testing it out this summer when the salvage season begins. I hope we hear about their results.


Palm Beach County decided to not let a two foot wide hole be dug for treasure at DuBois Park. Who would be surprised at that. Too many policitical forces to buck for them to follow up on the initial excitement.
