12/20/19 Report - A Couple T. C. Beaches Being Detected This Morning. A Couple Small Finds.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com

South of Ambersands Beach Access Friday Morning.
There were four or five people detecting at Ambersand this morning.  There were some cuts.  The biggest ones were to the south (shown above).

The stepped cut was near the crossover.

Yesterday I showed photos of Turtle Trail, Seagrape Trail and John Brooks beaches.  I issued a 2 rating (transitional rating) on my beach conditions rating scale and mentioned that I didn't know what would happen with the next tidal cycle.

JD sent me a photo that evening.

It looks like Turtle Trail conditions started to decrease later in the day.

Several detectorists showed up at Turtle Trail early this morning and found conditions not nearly as good as it was yesterday morning.

So it looks like Turtle Trail opened up for a brief period but by Friday evening was already deteriorating.

In addition to a bunch of lead, yesterday Captain Jonah dug the nice little piece shown below.  Looks to me like it might be a piece of jewelry.

Find and Photo by Captain Jonah.

I was talking to one of the fellows about the small pieces I've been picking up with the Equinox.  Here is an example of one I dug yesterday.  I'd call it a square nail, but it is too small to be a nail. It wasn't easy to see in the sand.

Very colorful.

I have some other examples of small finds that I've picked up recently, which I hope to get photographed soon.

I've seen pieces very similar to Jonah's on 18th Century jewelry and might have one or two examples somewhere.

Looks like we'll have four and five foot surf for a while, but no more north winds until Monday.

I was out this morning when the Atlas rocket went up but missed it somehow.  Was supposed to be a good show.

Happy hunting.

10/8/17 Report - Tons of Detectorists On Treasure Coast Beaches Today. Beach Detecting Conditions Improved.

Written by the treasureguide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport blogspot.com.

Amber Sands Beach South
I never saw so many detectorists.  It seemed there were more detectorists than grains of sand this morning.  They were at every beach in numbers.

John Brooks beach was open.

Turtle Trail and Seagrape Trail was closed but there were cars parked all around the entrance and people were walking in.  Turtle Trail had more cars than Seagrape Trail.

Wabasso Beach was open.  Many detectorists were there.

Golden Sands was closed but people were parking outside and walking in.

Treasure Shores was open.  Detectorists were there too.

Amber Sands South

Amber Sands was open and there were a lot of detectorists to the north.

The State Park was still closed.  There was a Sheriff's car at McClarty.  Many detectorists were parked and walking in.

The beaches that I saw didn't look particularly promising.

John Brooks Beach This Morning.
Wabasso Beach This Morning
In the above picture you can see a detectorist in the foreground and there were many farther down and in the other direction.

None of the beaches looked great although the water had been high. From the places I saw, it seemed there had been some filling after the original erosion.  There was loose sand piled up on the fronts.

There was erosion to the cliffs and dunes.  Conditions were not great, but I did not see all the beaches.  I did not enter where the beaches were closed, so I could have missed some of the best spots.  From what I saw I would rate conditions no better than a 2 on a five point scale.

There was some sand exposed that hadn't been exposed for a number of years.  Some of the erosion was into newer sand.

In summary, I'm sure there will be some cobs found.  There were so many people covering so much ground, that I feel certain of that.  John Brooks did not look promising at all.  Wabasso just a touch better.

I saw some of the hard core guys and also some beginners and children.  It seemed like everybody was out.

My best bet today was one of the closed beaches.

10/9/15 Report - Survey Of Some Vero and Sebastian Area Beaches. Holed Two Reale Recently Found. Beach Emeralds.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

Find and Photo by Andy.

I was talking about holed coins recently and showed a couple yesterday that were hung on a crucifix.

Here is a 1819 2-reale from the Mexico mint recently found on an Indian River County beach.

Notice the hole and the amount of wear displayed by this silver coin.

I received the email below from Andy, who found this coin.

Hi. First I want to thank you for your blog! I have read every post since you started...
multiple times in fact. In late 2009 I eyeballed a replica treasure coin before I ever touched a metal detector and sent a photo to you. You verified that it was fake but launched my interest in the subject. Since then I have used your knowledge through the blog to learn the art of beach detecting. I can't thank you enough for what I have learned. I am a local government official involved in the veroman site and other local historic sites so I love your insight on these topics. Recently your post on holed coins grabbed my interest. A few weeks ago I found a holed coin north of vero on a non treasure wreck beach along with a small ship spike. Today your post included an image of a cross up for auction with two reales attached. The coins look very similar to the one I found. I would love for you to look at the coin I found and offer your thoughts. Thank you! -andy

Thanks for sharing Andy.

If anyone else has found a similar period coin on a beach north of Vero, I'd like to hear about it. Maybe we can come up with some ideas or maybe some theories about possible sources.

Amber Sand Beach This Morning After High Tide
Some of the Treasure Coast beaches are definitely improving.  But they aren't there yet.

They are losing sand.  There are some big cuts at the back of the beach in the old renourishment sand.  There are even some small cuts in front of that.  But the slopes are mushy.

I took a look at Rio Mar, which was not good at all, Turtle Trail, which was definitely improved, and Seagrape Trail, which was not as much improved as Turtle Trail.  Wabasso had a mushy slope.   Amber Sands, was somewhat improved.

There is so much renourishment sand still out there.

I'd say there will be a few cobs found somewhere, but the chances are slim for most detectorists.  I'm not going to increase my beach conditions rating yet, despite the improvement that is occurring.

I did not get to see what the bottom of the slope was like because the tide was still fairly high when I was out there.  I wish I would have been able to go out at low tide so I could have seen if there were any dips near the low tide line.

Seagrape and Turtle Trails This Morning After High Tide.

Notice the dip and the cliff up by the steps in this last photo.

The biggest disappointment was the mushiness of the slopes.  I wish I would have been there nearer low tide so I could have seen the low tide area.

This is a good first step for the Fall/Winter season.  I hope things continue to develop.

Yesterday I showed what the South Hutchinson Island wreck beaches looked like.

A few days ago I showed an emerald found on a Treasure Coast beach.  Bill F. had this to say.

Several years ago, when I was more active in beach hunting, knew a guy
who had found several (around 50) emeralds, all in one location. He didn't
divulge the location, and I didn't press him.  Many doubted his claim,
but after talking with him, I had no reason to doubt him.

He was turned onto the location by a lady who had walked the beach

every day for years.  I've lost touch with him, but wish him the best.   Bill F.

Thanks Bill
